Coliseum Connections

Oakland, California

UrbanCore Development & Oakland Economic Development Corporation

Coliseum Connections is a 110-unit, multifamily, residential project located on an existing BART-owned parking lot adjacent to the Oakland Coliseum station. The project is within the Coliseum Area Specific Plan and the site is currently utilized as surface parking for BART patrons. The new units are a mix of 50% affordable and 50% market rate. The project uses Guerdon’s prefab Type-III modular construction for the residential units.

The building exterior is contemporary in character, with a strong “billboard” element that echoes the BART tracks, sheltering the smaller-scale “village” of two-story townhomes. The proposed project consists of four buildings: a five-story building fronting the BART tracks at the western edge of the site that accommodates 65 one- and two-bedroom flats, and three buildings with 45 two-story townhome units on the eastern portion of the site. The primary building entry is located to the south, facing the BART station. A café space for residential and public use is located at sidewalk level, adjacent to the entry. A community room, and shared outdoor space are also provided to the residents at the podium level.

The project includes development of a 25-foot wide pedestrian mews bordering the east edge of the project. This landscaped mews will link 70th and 71st Street, providing neighbors with a direct walking and biking path to the Coliseum Station. This mews is private, but will allow access at all times through a public access easement.
