BUSD Workforce Housing Breaks Ground

We’re thrilled to see BUSD Workforce Housing break ground this month! This new housing project for Berkeley Unified School District will provide 110 affordable & missing-middle-income homes for educators & staff who shape our communities.

This project started during the COVID shutdown, when area schools suffered acute staffing shortages. During our community outreach, we shared our families’ first-hand familiarity with our teachers’ struggle to find housing that helped build momentum and local support for this project. We’re honored to be part of the solution to easing the burden many teachers and staff face, attracting talent, and ensuring that those who give so much to our students have a place to call home.

Huge thanks to developers Satellite Affordable Housing Associates and Abode Communities, City leaders, BUSD officials, consultants, and community advocates who made this vision a reality. And shout out to our team, Sam, Tyler, Herminio and Sneha, for their hard work. We can’t wait to see the first residents move in!
